Se pensavate di aver gia` imparato come sono fatti i canyons dell`Arizona e dello Utah vi sbagliate! Il Bryce canyon e` un mondo a parte. Ho ancora il dubbio di essere stata su un altro pianeta... solo la vegetazione aveva una parvenza terrestre.
If you were already thinking to more or less know how canyons look like, be ready to change your mind! The Bryce Canyon is something peculiar, like another world. I am still wondering if we flew to another planet... just the plants were a reminder that we didn`t move from planet Earth!
Il bianco della neve sul rosso delle rocce e quello delle nuvole nel cielo azzurrissimo contribuivano all`atmosfera surreale. Questo non e` un fotomontaggio!
The white colour of the snow on the red rocks and that of the clouds in the intense blue sky made the atmosphere even more unreal. This is not a photomontage!
Ma come si sono formate queste strutture fantastiche? Lasciamo perdere le spiegazioni scientifiche che chiamano in causa l`erosione dell`acqua e del vento e la geologia... che noia!
I nativi d`America hanno la risposta. Si narra che questa terra fosse abitata anticamente da un popolo leggendario a meta` strada tra umani e animali. Gli indiani Paiute (letteralmente dalla faccia dipinta di rosso) raccontano che questo popolo leggendario era pero` alquanto dissoluto e non si comportava tanto bene, specialmente nei confronti dei coyote! E come tutti i bravi indiani sanno, non si fa arrabbiare un coyote in quanto animale dotato di poteri soprannaturali. Ed infatti i coyote, scocciati dal comportamento di questi uomini-animali, li trasformarono tutti in rocce! Ben vi sta, maleducati!
How did these spectacular structures form? Let aside all the scientific explanations that call wind and water erosion and geology into question... so boring!
The native Americans know the answer. The Paiute Indians (literally red painted faces) tell that this place was once home for people that were half humans half animals that were called Legend People. The Legend people were not so nice, especially towards coyotes. As all good Indians know, you never bother coyotes because they have supernatural powers. As a matter of fact, the coyotes, fed up for the Legend People behaviour, turned all of them into stones! Well done!
